The venue was moved to the Narragansett Boat House in Providence, RI due to the impending storm. It never materialized. So some of the Best open ocean rowers in the Country had to rely on their flatwater skills for the 10 mile, no wind, super flat race today.

Despite the venue change on Thursday, the was the best organized race I have attended under the direction of Dan G.

Eric Moll from Seattle, was 3 minutes ahead of the fastest local paddler Cory Lancaster, fresh off the Surfski Championships. After those guys, it was flatwater racing strategy. We could have all paddled our K1s because it was that flat of a course and protected and the open section was just as flat. We all took our turns pulling: Me, Tim, Tom, Chris, and Mike after he caught back up to us after hitting something on the start. He caught us at the 5 mile buoy turn and dragged Chris with him. Chris was in his new to him V10 and feeling loose and fancy free being able to enjoy the speed of the v10 on flatwater over his other Epic ski.

So for the next 5 miles we all rode wash. With 2 miles to go, Mike made his move increasing the tempo (Beverly style) with Tim in tow and me riding Tim, and Chris and Tom on me. With ½ mile to go and some misdirection by an official, Mike and Tim split off, and me, Chris and Tom took another line. We all finished within 8 seconds of each other. Everyone enjoyed the flatwater today since we rarely do any flatwater racing in the summer and was nice to be in a group for a change. It was good to see Bob and Mike who also enjoyed a very tight race.  ~Wesley
