Now that spring has sprung and the temperatures are starting to climb, your focus for training should be changing. Hopefully you have spent the winter working on X-training, strength, power and now starts the process of trading that to the boat. The efforts in your kayak/surfski should include some quality effort pieces now about 8 minutes long and 30 seconds long, to generate the comfort, power and acceleration needed through the season. By now you will have also picked “your race” – the one you are going to peak for – then working backwards you are starting to organize your workouts to allow you to peak there. Remember, you can only peak for as long as your base will allow – big base: longer peak of maybe 5 weeks; smaller base: shorter peak of 2 weeks –  so vary your workouts so you get the most of your season.

Good luck, race fast and check back throughout the racing season for more tips!!

Cheers, Ben
