HELPFUL HINTS

The start of the race is at Lynch Park Point which is just off of Woobury Beach. Easy paddle to the starting line. Once in position and the race begins, you will paddle pretty much straight East. At approximately the 4 mile mark, you will be passing Misery Island and then House Island (both will be on your right) and Ram Island(which will be to your left). Kettle Island is another 3.5 miles (approx)further. Once you pass between Ram and House Island, you will be in open water and outside Salem Sound. You will continue to paddle another 2.5 miles(approx) before you reach Egg Rock, which you will also pass.   When you pass Egg Rock and circle Kettle Island, you keep both to your left (Oceanside)when paddling the first leg.  Kettle is approximately 1 more mile. You circle it on the OCEANSIDE also. At that point you have paddled approximately 7.5 miles and you will start your paddle back to Lynch Park Point/Woodbury Beach. The finish line is the same as the starting line. The Kettle Island Run is pretty much a straight line course with coastline to you left on the way to the island/circle and the coastline is to your right on your way back the finish line.

Just so you know, once you have passed Ram and House Island’s, the ocean can be lively. I suggest that all participants paddle a boat they feel very comfortable in. A stable boat is recommended if you have any doubts.

In summary, this race can present challenging conditions even to the above average and advanced racer. This is not a beginner race and one should not enter it if you feel you are.

Hopefully you can attend and if you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me and we can sort it out.

Thank You
