With the temps in the high 30’s a group of eight hearty New England paddlers met at the Narrow River Race start line for some flat water training. We waded through the snow to get to the water’s edge and pushed Timmy Shields Jeep out of a snow rut after our paddle. Half of the Narrow River was frozen, but we still managed almost 10 miles. Tim H, Chris Chappell, and myself did some high quality interval work. It is safe to say my new SES is faster than my previous versions. I will have many more group training sessions, time trials and races in the next few months but the acceleration is better, the new rounded cockpit design makes leg drive and rotation easy and intuitive, while the narrow catch ensures a more vertical stroke, hence more power. It also has a greatly improved turning radius with the rudder and cockpit moved slightly forward than the previous version. My video captures mostly Chris(Mohican) and myself while Tim H is paddling my previous V10L. Chris got out of the gate earlier after not paddling for since December but keeping in shape with running, weight lifting and kayak erging. Tim H has had an excellent off season training season and was anxious to see how he stacked up today. Chris Sherwood and Rocky made the trek from the Cape while Timmy cruised down from Boston. With the Crash B’s behind me, and Spring getting close, I am looking forward to the racing season in my New Stellars!

2015 Stellar SES Early Season Flatwater Training from Wesley Echols on Vimeo.

The previous version of the SES has demonstrated its speed with excellent results across the globe, recently as yesterday’s King/Queen of the Harbour Race in New Zealand with Sam Newlands placing 4th in his SES Ultra while Sean Rice(Think Uno Max) continues his dominance. Three of the top paddlers in 2014 on the East Coast, Reid,Borys and Beata were also in SES’s!
